There is no proper definition of mental health. Mental health is generally defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential and can cope up with the normal stresses of life. In short, mental health enables you to become stress-free and work in a more productive manner.

Mental health disorders have a long history. The treatment of this type of disorders dates back to medieval Muslim physicians from the 8th to 15th centuries. In case of mental health, an individual’s mental conditions may have many different possible values. Mental wellbeing is one major aspect of mental health.

The definition of mental health highlights emotional happiness, the capacity to live a full and creative life and to deal positively with the various challenges of life. There are various kinds of books and philosophies stating about the different types of therapeutic systems. Positive psychology is what is stressed in mental health.

There is a holistic model of mental health that generally includes concepts based on anthropological, educational, psychological, religious and sociological perspectives. The holistic model also stresses on personality, social, clinical, health and developmental psychology. An example of a wellness model includes the one that is developed by Myers, Sweeny and Witmer.

The World Health Organization or WHO is appealing to various countries of the world to increase their support for mental health services. WHO is concerned about the global mental health and has published a total of 6 articles in the journal The Lancet. Mental health depends on certain factors such as mental, neurological and behavioral disorders which are common to all countries and cause immense suffering among people.
